HEREFORD SALON PUBLICATIONSGoran Djordjevic, Elements of Visual Grammar, 1997 Is it possible to reason by means of images? If it is, then with what kind of images can we organize thoughts? How can the rules governing the relations between images be established? Could these relations be as complex and productive as those defined within the grammar of the common language? These are the questions that motivate this publication by Goran Djordjevic. It includes a part of his master's dissertation, submitted in 1984 to the Media Laboratory, then in the Architecture Department, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In turn, the dissertation is based on several papers published in the 1970s by the Student Cultural Center in Belgrade, as well as the author's undergraduate dissertation, submitted in 1980 to the Department of Electrical Engineering, Belgrade University. Goran Djordjevic directs a reincarnation of Gertrude and Leo Stein's Salon de Fleurus in New York's Soho. Although his means are now rather different, his aims have not changed. He is still concerned with the roots of Modern Art and the future of artistic activity in general. (All proceeds of sales help offset the cost of Salon events and activities.)
