HEREFORD SALON PUBLICATIONS

Lauren and Ranko Bon, eds., Three Conversations on Art Institutions and Their Future, 1995

In July 1995 Lauren and Ranko Bon proposed to their friends at the Hereford Salon several questions for discussion: How does the web of art institutions stimulate or inhibit artistic activity? What will become of art schools, galleries, museums, foundations financing art projects, collectors, publishers of art books and art bookshops, and all the others who in one way or another mediate between the artists and the public? What are the alternatives to the existing institutions? What are artists to hope for by the end of the millennium? What can be done here and now to bring these hopes closer to reality? Several people joined: Vivien Ashley, Selcuk Avci, Lutz Becker, Maya and Stuart Brisley, Richard Gott, Sanja Jurca-Avci, and Lucy Le Feuvre. The three conversations took place at the Salon in August and September 1995. The conversations were recorded on tape, and the tapes transcribed and edited into this publication.

Lauren and Ranko Bon are Directors of the Hereford Salon. Lauren is responsible for the art programme, and Ranko for the publications. Lauren is a sculptor and painter. She has exhibited in the UK and US. She is concerned with the theater, as well, and especially in connection with Beckett. Ranko writes and paints.

(All proceeds of sales help offset the cost of Salon events and activities.)
